A delegation headed by Dr. Bram Govaerts, Director General of the Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo, also known as International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), visited the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (IEDA) recently. The two parties signed the cooperation agreement to formally establish the IEDA-CIMMYT Joint Laboratory on Climate Change and Agricultural Mitigation and Sequestration, and Dr. Qingzhu Gao, Deputy Director General of IEDA attended the signing ceremony.
Both parties will work together to establish a long-term and effective cooperation mechanism revolving around five (5) fields: climate change impacts and adaptation in agriculture, agricultural mitigation and sequestration technology, agricultural meteorological disaster prevention and reduction, climate smart agriculture, and conservation agriculture, strengthen people-to-people exchange and talent training, apply jointly for scientific research projects, and carry out pragmatic cooperation focusing on cutting-edge fields. Looking to the future, the two institutions will further deepen cooperation that focuses on international academic frontiers and national needs, promote scientific and technological innovation, boost cooperative research on climate change and agricultural mitigation and sequestration, and contribute more wisdom and strength to remove common hurdles for green and low-carbon agricultural development.
