On July 12, a delegation headed by Mr. AbdulHakim Elwaer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Near East and North Africa, visited the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (IEDA) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). Ms. Zhai Lin, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, CAAS, and Dr. Hao Weiping, Deputy Director General of IEDA, attended and spoke at the meeting.
The two sides discussed the current cooperation between IEDA and FAO, especially the techniques and technologies in research areas such as climate change, dryland agriculture and food security. With the advantage of the global network of FAO and by organizing online point-to-point technical seminars and other activities, they hoped to further prioritize deepened cooperation in dryland agriculture, climate change and protected agriculture, and come up with climate smart agriculture solutions, thus making positive contributions to global food security and sustainable development, and achieving common development.
Relevant experts from IEDA's Division of Research Management and International Cooperation, Team of Climate Change and Carbon Sequestration and Mitigation, Team of Smart Meteorology and Utilization of Agro-climate Resources, Team of Agro-meteorological Disaster Prevention and Control, Team of Novel Water-saving Materials and Agricultural Film Pollution Control, Team of Biological Water Conservation and Dryland Agriculture, Team of Plant Environmental Engineering of Protected Agriculture, and Team of Environmental Science and Engineering for Animal Husbandry also attended the meeting.
